The 2017 report continues the monitoring undertaken in preceding years. It assesses the role of the cultural and creative industries within the overall economy and provides an analysis of the development of key economic data, mostly for the 2011-2016 period. Further to this, it investigates the economic development of various submarkets and start-ups, as well as the innovative capacities of the cultural and creative industries. The analyses contained in the report are based on data from publicly available sources, data held by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim, and a representative survey of the cultural and creative industry sector in Germany conducted by ZEW in spring 2017.
The monitoring report was produced by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research, Karlsruhe, on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
