Cover Cultural and Creative Industries in Germany

The cultural and creative industries are turning into one of the most dynamic sectors in the global economy. In 2018, they contributed around 100 billion euros to the German economy.

Just like digitalisation, the cultural and creative industries are taking on an ever more important cross-cutting role. It is against this backdrop that the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy launched the Cultural and Creative Industries Initiative. It is coordinated by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.

The goal of the initiative is to strengthen the competitiveness of the cultural and creative industries and to boost entrepreneurship and job creation in the sector. It also seeks to improve income opportunities for small cultural and creative businesses and own-account artists who are facing particular challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to liquidity assistance and financial support in case of hardship, a wide range of measures are being undertaken to revive the sector once again.
