According to the Federal Statistical Office [1], output in the goods-producing sector fell by 3.2% in October compared with the preceding month. [2] The industrial and construction sectors registered expansions of 3.3% and 1.6% respectively. Within industry, the weighted figure for the automotive sector grew strongly, up 9.9%.

The two-month comparison for September/October compared with July/August shows an increase of 4.1% in the goods-producing industries. Output rose by 4.0 % in both industry and construction.

Manufacturing output continued to recover in October and was close to 96% of its level in the fourth quarter of 2019 before the coronavirus crisis. Even though new orders in the manufacturing sector point to a continuation of the recovery process, the further development of industrial activity continues to be affected by a lot of uncertainty as a result of the pandemic and the partial shutdown.
