According to the Federal Statistical Office,[1] output in the goods-producing sector rose by 0.7% in February compared with the preceding month.[2] Industrial output fell by 0.2%. Construction output grew by 6.8%.

In the two-month comparison of January/February against November/December, output in the goods-producing industry increased by 0.8%. In this assessment, too, construction likewise recorded a strong expansion (+4.4%), whilst industry saw a slight decline (-0.1%). In the automotive sector, output fell by 1.0%.

In view of the low number of new orders and the deterioration of the business climate, it seems likely that the industrial sector will remain sluggish. The construction industry is continuing to boom. The rather mild weather in February also contributed to this good result.
