Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier will be attending the meeting of EU trade ministers in Brussels today. The talks will focus on the upcoming 12th WTO Ministerial Conference to be held in Geneva from 30 November to
3 December 2021, the modernisation of the WTO and possibilities for further strengthening EU-U.S. trade relations. U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai will be participating via video link this afternoon to discuss the transatlantic relations.

Federal Minister Altmaier said: "Today’s meeting of trade ministers is crucial for the 12th WTO Ministerial Meeting, which will take place in December in Geneva. A strong WTO is more important than ever. We need to make the WTO fit for the 21st century. This will require modern trade rules and a modern institution. I am also looking forward to today’s exchange of views with U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai. Following the compromise regarding Airbus/Boeing, we have succeeded in reaching a satisfactory agreement on steel and aluminium. We need to build on this for good and strong transatlantic cooperation."
