Commenting the agreement reached by the Coalition parties on minimum distances between wind turbines and buildings and on lifting the PV cap, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier said:

“Today’s [18 May 2020] agreement between the Coalition parties is an excellent outcome for the energy transition and climate action. At the same time, it also provides for a strong impetus for economic growth and employment, particularly at this difficult time.

Renewables are a forward-looking technology, and we will continue to speed up planning procedures, as we also agreed today, to make greater use of digital options in planning and licensing procedures.

In adopting a clause giving each German state scope to decide on minimum distances between wind turbines and buildings, we have found a balanced solution. And we have delivered on our promise to abolish the photovoltaics cap – in fact we are lifting it before it has been reached.”
