Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and craft firms can now receive financial support if they create work-from-home jobs for current employees at short notice. They may claim reimbursement for up to 50 percent of the costs for seeking advice from a consulting firm that has been authorised by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The Ministry’s go-digital support programme contains a special procedure for this purpose which is fast and without red tape.

Federal Minister Altmaier said: “We want to support SMEs and handicraft enterprises in keeping their business going in the current crisis. This is why we have extended our proven go-digital support programme to include a new module for setting up workplaces at home. This shows that we are not leaving our small and medium-sized enterprises without support in the crisis and that we are providing assistance as good und as fast as we can wherever it is needed now while making sure to reduce bureaucracy as much as possible”.

The new funding module covers various services, from individual consulting to the implementation of home office solutions, such as the installation of specific software and the configuration of existing hardware. SMEs and handicraft enterprises wishing to obtain funding must first look at the list of consultants to find a consultancy firm in their region and conclude a consultancy contract with it. From this point on, the consulting firm takes over all further steps on behalf of the companies, from preparing the application for funding, to implementing tailor-made and secure measures, through to setting up workplaces at home.

Legally independent companies in the commercial sector, including the skilled trades with technological potential, with fewer than 100 employees and a turnover or balance sheet from the previous year of no more than 20 million euros are eligible for funding under this scheme. Funding support may be claimed for a maximum of 30 days at a maximum consultant daily rate of €1,100.
