Thomas Bareiß, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and Federal Government Commissioner for Tourism, is visiting Turkey on 11 June 2019 for bilateral talks in Ankara. The talks were held this morning in the Transport and Finance Ministries. The focus was on investment opportunities for German companies and cooperation in the context of expanding the transport infrastructure, especially in the railway sector.

State Secretary Bareiß is the German coordinator for the German-Turkish Energy Forum. Specific projects to improve energy efficiency, e.g. in hospitals, and the deepening of the cooperation on the expanded use of renewable energies in Turkey were discussed. Furthermore, State Secretary Thomas Bareiß extended Federal Minister Altmaier’s invitation to attend the 3rd session of the German-Turkish Energy Forum in Berlin on 23 October 2019 to the Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Dönmez.

In the Turkish Tourism Ministry, Federal Government Commissioner for Tourism Bareiß exchanged views on the coming vacation season and general questions relating to the further deepening of the German-Turkish tourism relations.

State Secretary Bareiß said: “The talks I held have shown me once again the great significance that our Turkish partners attach to cooperation with Germany and with German companies. Our cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and tourism offers enormous potential. In view of Turkey’s current difficult economic situation, we therefore need to intensify our communication to improve the business environment for German enterprises in Turkey again.”
