The 2018 Mittelstand-Digital Congress is taking place in the Economic Affairs Ministry today. The key focus will be on how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can make use of artificial intelligence (AI).

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier said: “Artificial intelligence is no longer something which will happen in the distant future, but is becoming a reality, and this is also true of Germany’s Mittelstand companies. It is facilitating decision-making, improved efficiency and new products and services. This is creating growth and jobs. The development of digital functions and business models is also advancing in other fields. We are helping SMEs to position themselves for the future in our Mittelstand 4.0 Centres of Excellence.”

All 25 Mittelstand 4.0 Centres of Excellence are presenting themselves and the practical examples they are supporting at today’s congress. They show how SMEs can benefit from the use of different digital technologies. Following the congress, the Mittelstand 4.0 Centre of Excellence in Berlin is hosting an evening event marking the opening of the tenth Mittelstand 4.0 Regional Conference. In the field of “gamification”, various sample applications are being used to show the potential of gamification and serious games for things like teaching, marketing and data management.
