State Secretary Dr Ulrich Nussbaum today welcomed Mr Kevin Hassett, Chair of U.S. President Trump's Council of Economic Advisors, for an exchange of views. The talks focused on transatlantic economic and trade relations. During the talks, both common views, for example on the positive role of direct investment for economic relations, and differing views, for instance on the possibilities for governments to influence current account surpluses or deficits, became evident. Both sides agreed to continue their intensive dialogue.

State Secretary Nussbaum said: "I very much welcome our open exchange of views. The unilateral action taken by the U.S. in the fields of sanctions imposed on Iran and excess steel and aluminium capacities is a major challenge for Germany and the EU. We want to cooperate with the U.S. and aim at consensus on common interests and objectives."
