On 23 April 2018, Parliamentary State Secretary Thomas Bareiß met with the Nicaraguan Minister of Development, Trade and Industry, Orlando Solózano, for economic talks at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Said State Secretary Bareiß: “We have good economic relations with Nicaragua. The Association Agreement of 2013 has boosted our bilateral trade. This free trade agreement is thus helping to raise prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic.”

In 2017, bilateral trade amounted to €125 million. During this period, Germany’s main imports from Nicaragua were coffee and bananas. Its principal exports to Nicaragua were electronics and machiney. Since the entry into force of the EU-Central America Association Agreement in 2013, trade has risen by more than 80% (2013: €68 million).
