In today's cabinet meeting, the Federal Government appointed four new Commissioners and Coordinators and one Special Representative in the portfolio of Peter Altmaier, Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Christian Hirte, Parliamentary State Secretary, is the new Federal Government Commissioner for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.

Thomas Bereiß, Parliamentary State Secretary, is the new Federal Government Commissioner for Tourism.

Thomas Jarzombek, Member of the German Bundestag, is the new Federal Government Coordinator of German Aerospace Policy.

Norbert Brackmann, member of the Bundestag, is the new Federal Government Coordinator for the Maritime Industry.

Parliamentary Sate Secretary Oliver Wittke has been appointed the new Federal Government Special Representative for the implementation of the international Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Germany (D-EITI).

The appointment of Federal Government Commissioners and Coordinators underlines the particular importance of these policy areas for the Federal Government. Commissioners and Coordinators are to coordinate, accompany and support the main activities of the Federal Government in its policy areas. They represent the Federal Government at national, European and international level and are contacts for citizens, business and associations.

The Cabinet today also took note of the appointment of Parliamentary State Secretary Christian Hirte as Commissioner for the New Federal States. The new Commissioner is to represent the interests of the Federal States in eastern Germany both inside and outside the Federal Government.
