Practical example and current challenges

  • The use case describes the development of a new integrated form of user experience. The use case opens new possibilities for creative industries in particular to develop innovative forms of experience and data-based value-added services.

  • Currently, users do not receive an integrated user experience while interacting with multiple systems simultaneously. While users often do not have devices with sufficient processing power to use the services, providers lack control over the quality of displays and the ability to transmit data or information. As a result, the potential for interaction with the customer remains untapped. However, by integrating systems and moving computationally intensive operations to the cloud, an innovative user experience can be realised and high-quality interactive displays can be provided universally for almost any network-enabled device.

  • Furthermore, the usage behaviour with existing devices is changing. While screens and touch-sensitive surfaces are losing importance, the use of mixed reality is increasing due to ever smaller devices. Representations result from simultaneous interactions of different systems, whereby the user receives information and options for action depending on the context and is thus offered an optimal experience.

  • The use case is also important for intuitive design. In a virtual reality, designers or artists shape components similarly intuitively as potters shape clay. At the same time, the virtual objects are coupled to physical models. Properties, such as stability, are calculated in real time. Both aesthetic and physical properties can be assessed and considered as early as the design stage. Previous knowledge of physics is not necessary. This also enables the involvement of end customers in innovation and design processes.

  • The application can be seen in the coupling of digital gaming and vehicle assistance systems. On the way to autonomous driving, interactive digital experiences in the vehicle are gaining in importance. Users want to integrate familiar elements from digital games, such as objects, design patterns, game mechanics or digital companions, into their own real vehicle. In the cloud, systems for displaying the game content and the vehicle are coupled and calculations for brilliant displays are carried out in real-time to ensure intuitive interaction in the vehicle.

  • The benefit can be seen in the use of devices that only require network access and do not need to provide any significant computing power, which enables immersive access to complex data and processes. Thus, device-independent high-end forms of display can be created for various wearables. The solutions are scalable and resilient. This enables intuitive, playful access to complex information for end customers and leads to new business fields for providers.

What added value does the "GAIA-X project" offer?

  • GAIA-X provides the necessary infrastructure, ensures secure data exchange and allows the provision of data without media breaks. Within the GAIA-X data infrastructure, the integration of systems and the relocation of computationally intensive operations take place, enabling the provision of UX components on end devices without significant computing power.

  • Standardised interfaces and services are being developed for GAIA-X, enabling companies to implement and combine very high-quality and sophisticated applications in the field of human-machine interaction in a time- and cost-efficient manner. These can then be operated within the GAIA-X Cloud in a cost-transparent and highly available manner.
