The 7th European Conference on space debris, which was held at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, ended on 21 April 2017.

Federal Minister Zypries, who also serves as Federal Government Coordinator of German Aerospace Policy, concluded the conference by saying that progress in the area of space debris could only be achieved by working together. “Avoiding and reducing space debris is a global task that all space users need to face up to. We need a binding international framework. This is the only way we can make sure that future generations can make full use of space flight.”

The four-day conference brought together 350 participants from 26 different countries including representatives of virtually all large national space agencies, the aerospace industry, governments, universities and research institutes to identify sustainable solutions for avoiding and getting rid of space debris.
