Iris Gleicke, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and Federal Government Commissioner for the New Federal States, SMEs and Tourism, met today with Mexico's Minister of Tourism Enrique de la Madrid Cordero.

In the context of the ITB tourism trade fair in Berlin, the State Secretary and the Minister talked about current tourism issues, the bilateral economic relations between Germany and Mexico, and general trade matters. The talks also focused on the recent developments in U.S. trade policy and their possible impact, not least on German firms in Mexico.

Iris Gleicke said: "The German-Mexican economic relations have developed very positively. They offer an enormous potential for the future of companies of our two countries. We are both convinced that open markets and reliable trade conditions rather than protectionism are the right approach. Therefore it is very important for us that the ongoing negotiations between the EU and Mexico on a modernised free trade agreement are successfully concluded as soon as possible."
