The BGR advises the Federal Government and industry on issues involving geosciences and raw materials. The Institute's tasks include helping to secure supplies of minerals and energy fuels, as well as conducting research related to raw materials, geo-environmental issues and georisk using state-of-the-art technologies (e.g. satellite-supported remote sensing). In addition, the BGR collaborates on projects to secure final storage of radioactive waste, and it operates the national Seismic Data Analysis Center to monitor compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.
