The central priority of economic policy - and therefore of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology - is to lay the foundations for economic prosperity in Germany and to ensure that this prosperity is spread broadly throughout the population.

Dr. Philipp Rösler

Dr. Philipp Rösler is the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology. The State Secretaries support him in fulfilling his responsibilities.

State Secretaries

The State Secretaries are civil servants responsible for the Directorates-General within the Ministry. The Parliamentary State Secretaries are political appointees. They represent the Minister in the political arena.

Structure and tasks

The Ministry's legislative, administrative and coordinating functions in areas such as competition policy, regional policy, SME policy, energy policy, and external economic policy are geared to this task. The Ministry's organisation reflects the spectrum of its activities.

Budget

The ministry's budget amounts to ¤6.119bn in 2013. The ministry is thus playing its part in the efforts to consolidate the public-sector budgets whilst targeting investment at growth and innovation.

Commissioners and co-ordinators

Parliamentary State Secretaries Ernst Burgbacher, Hans-Joachim Otto and Peter Hintze serve as co-ordinators and/or commissioners of the Federal Government.

Advisory Boards

The advisory boards at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology are composed of panels of experts who advise the Federal Minister on special issues of economic policy.
