Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Dr. Philipp Rösler today pays a visit to Portugal together with a business delegation. In Lisbon he will discuss economic-policy issues with Prime Minister Passos Coelho, Minister of Foreign Affairs Paulo Portas, who is also in charge of foreign trade, and his counterpart, Minister of Economy and Employment Santos Pereira. The visit focuses on strengthening Portugal's export potential. Therefore the launch of the initiative "Portugal PLUS" of the German-Portuguese Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CCILA) will also take place during the visit. In the context of this initiative, about 40 Portuguese export companies will present themselves first in Lisbon and afterwards - as from September 2012 - within the framework of a road show in various German towns and cities.

Federal Minister Rösler stated: "The Portuguese government's growth policy aims at promoting exports. The export industry is a major driving force to overcome the country's recession and to enhance its competitiveness. We wish to strengthen Portugal's export potential with the "Portugal PLUS" initiative. It also offers interesting opportunities for German firms. During my talks I also want to discuss possibilities of deeper economic cooperation with Portugal."

After his visit to Lisbon, Federal Minister Rösler will travel to Porto, a centre of Portugal's  export industry. Here, he will visit a Portuguese enterprise and a German company and one of the three vocational schools that are run in the country by the German-Portuguese Chamber of Industry and Commerce in line with the German dual vocational training system. Both in Porto and in Lisbon Federal Minister Rösler will attend business meetings of German and Portuguese companies.
